Review an AI translation for meaning, not just fluent wording

A smooth translation can still reverse a condition. Compare meaning-bearing phrases and pause publication when important ambiguities remain.

Review an AI translation by comparing meaning-bearing phrases with the source, especially names, negation, obligations and conditions. Fluent wording is useful, but it cannot establish that the translation says the same thing.

Define the translation’s intended use

Perplexity lists translating among document-based upload tasks. The supplied evidence does not establish particular language coverage, certified translation status or accuracy for specialised material.

As editorial advice, specify the language pair, audience and purpose before requesting a draft. A Hindi explanation for a student newsletter needs a different register from an English rendering intended for technical review. Neither should silently strengthen or weaken the source.

Use public or synthetic passages. Do not submit private correspondence or customer documents to practise this method.

Prepare a bilingual review sheet

Create one record for each high-impact phrase:

  • Source phrase: Exact wording and its locator.
  • Draft translation: The corresponding target-language phrase.
  • Meaning check: Who acts, what happens and under which condition?
  • Risk category: Name, number, negation, obligation, technical term or ambiguity.
  • Reviewer decision: Accept, revise or seek clarification.

Keep a small glossary for repeated technical terms. Record proper-name spellings separately, including whether transliteration or the original spelling is preferred. A consistent wrong term still needs correction; consistency is not proof of fidelity.

Hypothetical Hindi–English review

Consider this synthetic notice: “आवेदन 15 जून तक जमा करना अनिवार्य है। शुल्क वापस नहीं किया जाएगा। विशेष अनुमति मिलने पर देर से आवेदन स्वीकार किया जा सकता है।”

Its review targets are concrete:

  • “अनिवार्य है” expresses a requirement, not a suggestion.
  • “नहीं” must remain attached to the refund statement.
  • “किया जा सकता है” preserves possibility rather than guaranteeing acceptance.
  • “विशेष अनुमति मिलने पर” makes late acceptance conditional.
  • “15 जून” should not acquire an invented year.

Ask a bilingual reviewer whether the English draft preserves all five points. A sentence such as “Late applications will be accepted” fails because it drops both uncertainty and the permission condition.

This example illustrates a review method, not a hands-on assessment of a platform’s Hindi translation quality.

Choose revision or specialist review

For low-stakes public copy, repair identified phrases and reread the whole passage for coherence. For consequential obligations or unresolved technical ambiguity, stop publication and seek a suitably qualified bilingual reviewer rather than repeatedly polishing the English.
