Check whether generated product footage misrepresents what you sell

Commercial-use permission is not product validation. Compare each visible claim against an approved reference and stop footage that invents capabilities.

Compare generated product footage against verified product references before publishing it. Commercial-use permission does not validate dimensions, materials, interfaces or the capabilities a scene appears to demonstrate.

Turn attractive details into review questions

Runway says generations can be used without non-commercial restrictions imposed by Runway. That statement concerns provider usage rights, not whether a depiction accurately represents a product sold in India.

Treat every meaningful visible detail as a potential claim. Does the product look smaller than it is? Does a decorative animation resemble a working display? Does a demonstration suggest resistance, speed or capacity that the reference material does not establish?

Use approved public specifications or self-created fictional references for exploratory work. Do not upload customer or private product-development material.

Apply a product-truth checklist

Review each shot against four groups:

  • Dimensions: proportions, scale beside familiar objects, capacity and accessory size.
  • Interfaces: button count, connector placement, displayed labels and apparent controls.
  • Materials: finish, transparency, flexibility and visible construction.
  • Demonstrated capabilities: motion, output, durability, compatibility and operating conditions.

Add a reference identifier, reviewer and pass, revise or unresolved status for every group. Separate aesthetic preferences from factual mismatches: warmer background lighting may be a style choice, while an extra charging port changes the depicted product.

Also ask whether the exact variant shown matches the variant being advertised. Do not let approval for one colour or model silently cover another.

Hypothetical desk-lamp review

Suppose a fictional Indian seller's approved reference describes a 32-centimetre desk lamp with one rotary control, a metal shade and a wired power connection. A proposed concept depicts a touch display, a flexible silicone shade and operation while disconnected.

The worksheet should flag three substantive mismatches: interface, material and implied power capability. A correct height would not offset them. Evaluate each shot independently, then review the whole sequence for implied claims created by editing.

A suitable next step is to redesign the concept around a verified reference image and neutral lighting. Alternatively, remove the unsupported demonstration. This example is hypothetical and does not report a generation result from any platform.

Stop unsupported product demonstrations

Do not publish an unresolved capability claim merely because a caption calls the scene illustrative. Ask the product owner or qualified reviewer to confirm the intended representation, and seek appropriate professional advice where advertising obligations are uncertain.

When comparing production access, visit the AI tools catalog, check access format and save terms before buying. Marketplace account, code or token offers are not proof of official subscription equivalence or product accuracy.

Sources and scope
