Check captions against the final exported creative, using the script only as a reference. A caption can match an earlier script perfectly while misrepresenting the words, timing or meaning of the finished video. This is an editorial review workflow, not a claim that Runway provides captioning.
Establish the review version
Assign the exported video a version identifier and record its duration, language and intended destination. Pair it with one caption file or text draft. If the soundtrack changes, reopen the caption review rather than carrying forward an earlier approval.
For Indian multilingual projects, identify who can review each spoken language and code-switched phrase. Ask reviewers to distinguish an actual transcription error from a deliberate choice about spelling, transliteration or regional vocabulary.
Use a caption reconciliation worksheet
Create one entry per disputed segment with these fields:
- Time range and speaker identifier.
- Words actually heard in the final soundtrack.
- Current caption and proposed correction.
- Relevant sound cue, such as an alarm or laughter.
- Meaning risk: negation, amount, name, uncertainty or speaker attribution.
- Reviewer, resolution and version checked.
Review once while listening and once with audio muted. The first pass checks correspondence; the second asks whether captions communicate essential context without inventing sounds or intent. Do not describe background music as threatening unless that interpretation is justified by the creative and agreed editorial approach.
Evaluate a hypothetical mismatch
Hypothetical example: a 24-second fictional training video originally says, “Delivery is available in every district.” The final narration says, “Delivery is not available in every district,” but the caption retains the original sentence.
Record the missing “not” as a meaning-changing defect, not a minor typo. At 18 seconds, a warning buzzer accompanies a failed action. Ask whether omitting that cue leaves a muted viewer believing the action succeeded.
Evaluate the corrected export using three concrete questions: does the negation appear when spoken, does the sound description explain the event without exaggeration, and can the reviewer identify which version was approved?
Stop when captions change the claim
Hold delivery if captions reverse a statement, misattribute a speaker or omit a qualification. Next, correct the relevant entry and review the affected sequence in context.

Sources and scope
Source material checked 29 October 2026; features/policies may change. Runway usage rights states that, as between the user and Runway, users retain ownership and rights to uploaded and generated content. It also permits generations without Runway-imposed non-commercial restrictions and requires no formal credit. That statement does not establish caption accuracy or captioning features. The worksheet and release checks above are editorial advice.
