Estimate polling demand by multiplying sessions by active session duration and polling frequency, then adding other requests separately. A small number of users can still generate substantial request activity when an interface refreshes repeatedly.
Define what your model counts
Replit documents requests, outbound data transfer and Autoscale compute units among publishing usage categories. Usage is available in Settings, while details and included allowances are plan-specific and may change.
The supplied evidence does not define how every application interaction maps to a billable request. Your model is therefore an operational estimate to compare with observations, not an invoice forecast.
As editorial advice, count proposed application calls explicitly. Keep polling calls separate from page loading, submissions and other activity so that assumptions remain visible.
Write a session-frequency worksheet
Record these inputs for a chosen day or launch window:
- Number of sessions, not merely registered users.
- Average active minutes per session.
- Polling interval in seconds.
- Number of independently polling components.
- Expected simultaneous active sessions at the busiest moment.
- Behaviour when a tab is hidden, a request fails or a user leaves.
For Indian teams, note when the busiest window occurs in IST rather than spreading demand evenly across the day. Background-tab behaviour and retries are implementation questions to verify, not automatic savings to assume.
Work through a hypothetical status screen
Imagine a fictional college-fest status interface with 300 sessions a day. Each session stays active for 12 minutes, and one component polls every 15 seconds.
Using a simplified interval-only count, each session produces 720 ÷ 15 = 48 polling calls. Across 300 sessions, that is 14,400 calls. An immediate initial call, if implemented, would need to be added separately.
If three components independently use that schedule, the estimate becomes 43,200 calls. With 60 simultaneous sessions and one component, evenly distributed polling averages four calls per second; synchronised timing could create bursts instead.
Changing the interval to 60 seconds reduces the one-component daily estimate to 3,600 calls. Evaluate whether that delay still meets the interface's freshness requirement. These are hypothetical calculations, not measured traffic, platform limits or performance findings.
Stop when refresh has no business requirement
Stop if nobody can explain why a 15-second update is necessary. Next, define acceptable information age, consolidate redundant calls where appropriate and test the chosen behaviour with synthetic sessions.
If evaluating the coding catalog, check access format and save offer terms before buying. Marketplace account, code or token offers are not proof of official subscription equivalence or a current request allowance. A larger offer does not replace demand modelling.
